Have you ever celebrated Thanksgiving away from home?

The tradition for most people is celebrating Thanksgiving at home with family and friends. However, have you ever wondered how is to travel with the family, and celebrate in different places?

That is what we have done in the last two years, and we had a fabulous time. Last year, we went to Cancun, and because it is a different country, we thought we would not have any Thanksgiving celebration. We were OK either way. To our surprise, the festivity started early morning, continued during the day and ended with a spectacular Thanksgiving buffet dinner by the pool.

Since we got four days off, we also wanted to get out this year, but not very far. We did not want to fly because we could not extend our stay for few more days after. So, to be back on time for Monday’ work, it is usually a headache as the airports get super crowded. Therefore, we wanted to drive somewhere close to us and be a quiet place. We ended up in Palm Springs, just three and a half hour away.

It was not the first time for us in Palm Springs, but this time was special. Why? Because of the resort, we stayed at. We picked JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, and it was amazing. After you see the pictures, you will know why I am bragging about it. It is a 400 acres oasis in the middle of the desert.

The whole experience, from the property to food, service to all available activities, was just incredible. As we approached the hotel and entered the lobby, I saw only families and many kids. At first, I got cranky at the thought of not being able to sleep at all during this trip. I am a light sleeper, and I wake up for every little noise I hear. Guess what? The hotel is so big that I was able to get my quiet room and overall have a memorable trip.

I have never seen so many families celebrating Thanksgiving away from their homes and wondered why. I listened to a few people saying that they got tired of just cooking and cleaning. It was better for everyone just to be served, have fun, and enjoy the holiday for almost the same money they would spend anyway.

I cannot agree more with them. If you can, get away. In this way, all of you, including your mothers and sisters, can truly celebrate. It does not have to be far away, and it does not have to be an expensive resort either. The most important thing is to have each other.

Being away even for few days, it truly feels like a vacation. Breaking the daily routine and hitting the reset button makes you feel recharged and refreshed.

Oh, and if you ever plan to go to Palm Spring, do yourself a favor and stop by, at least for a coffee, to enjoy this wonderful hotel.
